My Journey to Becoming a Home Inspector

Becoming a home inspector wasn’t exactly part of the plan, but sometimes the best paths are the ones you don’t see coming. If you would have told me a few years ago that I’d be crawling through attics, navigating tight crawl spaces, and inspecting roofs for a living, I probably would’ve laughed. Yet here I am, combining my problem-solving abilities with the excitement of building a new career.

Why I Chose to Become a Home Inspector

I spent over 20 years in the United States Air Force, which couldn’t be more different from home inspections. My time in the military taught me discipline, attention to detail, and perseverance, qualities that I believe are key to succeeding in this industry. It also instilled in me the importance of trust and integrity, which I bring to every aspect of my work.

After retiring, I wanted a career that allowed me to stay close to my family while making a difference in my community. That’s when my wife casually suggested, “What about home inspections?” At first, I wasn’t sure. But as I researched the field, the more it felt like the perfect fit. So, I jumped in, starting with hours upon hours of YouTube videos and podcasts to learn as much as I could about the field. Turns out, I really enjoyed it.

Challenges and Rewards in My Journey to Becoming a Home Inspector

Learning something completely new has been both challenging and rewarding. There have been moments when I’ve thought, “What did I get myself into?” But with each challenge comes the excitement of building Sierra Delta Home Inspections and the chance to help others navigate one of the biggest investments of their lives…their home.

If you’re thinking about becoming a home inspector, know that the journey is challenging but incredibly rewarding. It takes persistence, a passion for learning, and a commitment to helping others, but the results are worth it.

What I love most about this journey is how much I get to learn and grow while helping others. For me, a home inspection isn’t just about ticking boxes on a checklist. It’s about making sure clients understand what’s going on with their house and feel confident in their decisions. Whether it’s a first-time buyer nervously asking questions or a seasoned homeowner looking for guidance, I’m here to help.

Technology Makes Home Inspections Exciting

Another amazing part of this career is the technology I get to use. Drones, thermal imaging cameras, and other tools make the job feel like a mix of being a detective and a tech enthusiast. These tools not only make inspections more thorough but also help clients see areas of their home they might never have noticed.

From the Air Force to Home Inspections

This is only the first chapter of what promises to be an incredibly rewarding journey. My military experience gave me the foundation, my family gave me the encouragement, and my passion for helping others is what drives me every day. While I’m new to the field, I’m dedicated to providing high-quality work for my clients and growing with every inspection.
